Product Care 101: Maintain Clothes, Utensils, Electronics & More

In an age where everything is so fast-paced, we tend to forget how much use our everyday objects get.
Clothes we wear each day, electronics we rely on every day… and daily upkeep can keep these items looking their best for a longer period of time. Hopefully, this guide will help you with a variety of simple things you can do to better care for some of the everyday items you use the most to help save you money, waste, and keep you on task.

Clothes: Keeping Every Outfit in Rotation Longer

Clothing works hard!
Washing, drying and wearing, clothes need to be taken care of so that they can look their best longer.

Smart Washing

Start off by sorting your laundry! In our busy lives, we don’t really pay a lot of thought to how dirty or clean our laundry actually is but separating our laundry from ‘delicate vs regular’ can make a huge difference in the care of your clothing! When we are putting, like, why are we using delicate detergent for regular clothes? For delicates, let’s wash in cold water as opposed to warm to keep the clothes a-fading. I advocate for turning clothing inside-out before washing to avoid fading, as well.

Drying and Storing:

Refrain from using the dryer every time we do laundry – the more we use the dryer, the more we risk shrinking and taking the integrity out of the fabric. Make sure you are hanging clothes on appropriate hangers and folding knits instead of hanging to better suit the shape of the item. Be sure to store clothes in a dry and well-ventilated place to prevent moisture damage or mold and mildew growth.

Utensils & Kitchenware: Clean & Safe for Everyday Use

Utensils are the heart of every kitchen, but different materials require different care.

Material Specific Advice

  • Stainless steel: Dry as soon as they are washed to avoid spots on the finish.

  • Wooden utensils: Hand wash and once in a while rub with a food safe oil.

  • Tephlon pans: Non stick coating cannot have a metal scrubbing utensil or you will scrub off the coating.

Storing Untensils

Make sure all utensils are clean and dry. You can use drawer dividers or tents that stay upright, they avoid clutter and breaking. Make sure everything is dry before putting items away.

Electronics: Keeping Gadgets in Good Working Order

Phones, laptops and other gadgets are now part of our routine and life, but they only are good if they care maintained.

Regular Cleaning

Dust off the screen with microfiber cloth; dust off all crevices with toothbrushes, soft bristled brushes or compressed air. Never use water or household cleaners. Do not apply any cleaner directly on the gadget.

Power and Storage Habits

Always use original, OEM, or certified chargers. Avoid allowing devices to charge overnight as this will harm the battery. Store devices in a cool, dry location, that is out of direct sunlight, and away from any moisture.

Personal Care Products: Cleanliness & Shelf Life

Skincare pressed products to personal grooming tools, we think of hygiene when dissing out personal care products.

Proper Handling

Make sure caps are sealed, keep hands clean when applying creams or serums.

Appliances: Little Machines, Big Difference

Blenders, trimmers, and irons make daily tasks easier – but they require care too.

After You Use It

Make sure you unplug after you use the vacuum. Clean any spills or stains you may find. Make sure you empty filters and confirm its not blocked. Store the cords such that kinks and tearing are minimalized.

Maintenance Check

Unusual noises, burnt smells, or poor performance may just need cleaning or a part replacement. To be honest, I would not wait for a catastrophic failure. Some kind of routine inspection of appliances can ultimately save you lots of money.

Conclusion: Small Actions, Bigger Value

You do not have to alter your day-today existence to treat your items with greater care.
Many small and mindful acts of care — wipe down your tools, store your stuff upright not upside down, or simply check productive labels — can provide enormous value in the long run. With consistent care, your daily essentials will simply last longer and operate better/safely.

As we discuss in our maintenance booklet, we will explore cookware maintenance in detail, but the main takeaway is to treat cookware with care while cooking and while storing.

When cleaning and packing cooking utensils for storage, ensure that they are completely dry, and pack them carefully to limit movement while in storage.
